Semiotics of theater space

This thesis deals with the theater as a specific aesthetic form combining visual and acoustic transmission of information within a specific communication model. Theory of theater, which is a independent and self-sufficient art department drawing on other types of art and creating unique artistic communication and experience in a particular space and time. The theater surroundigs and space, which is in the theater clearly defined and divided into zones - the stage and the auditorium. Thus adapted space affects the creation, transmission and reception of signs and require specific procedures of creative work. Particular kind of theater in this work is physical theater and dance. Through movement and dance in the theater transmits communication content in a different way. Symbolism of the body and movement in theater includes theatrical code. This system constitutes the characters and the code with which the operating theater and regulates the material which is used as theater character. At the same time determines how and under what conditions they can be combined characters and the importance attributed to these characters the audience. The empirical part contains an analysis of the performance of shadow dance group Teulis who participated in the project Czech Slovakia has talent.

Project of building, renovation and adaptation of theatre

This thesis deals with building or renovation of theatre building or adaptation of non-theatrical space into theatre. The project is examined in terms of director of the theatre or the person who is responsible for the result. First of all, basic terms are defined and the general requirements on future theatre are summarized. Than role of theatre artists and architects are described. They can get into trouble with each other when trying to meet their (sometimes contradictory) requirements. This is why it is necessary for the responsible person to deal with these contradictions.
There are important and obligatory legal institutes and procedures being described in second chapter, especially procurements, fundraising and building procedures, which are held by the local building authorities. There are obligatory studies and concepts explained. The legal processes held during and after the building works are described. All of these institutes are examined here.
There are four case studies of relevant projects brought in the third chapter to show how do the described procedures work in real praxis. These projects differ from each other in many ways, especially their size and nature, but there are many similarities also.

REALITY ON STAGE

This thesis is divided in two parts. The first, theoretical part deals with the staging
process and applied theater forms in the development of production without dramatic
text during continuous cooperation. Each chapter represents principles with which set
designer deals during cooperation. It serves as an index for the second part. Second
part represents a reflection of individual approaches to selected projects realizated
during the master studies.

Family delicacies: Who is my daughter?

This bachelor thesis is reflecting on a site specific project called Family delicacies: Who is my daughter? ? an event bordering on home theater, documentary theater, and performance art based on a story of two families that became merged through a birth of a baby. It was staged in the author´s apartment. However, the project also included an attempt to transfer this event from a private apartment to the theater space.
The work includes a description of the event itself, influences and examples of related similar projects from the contemporary art scene. The conclusion reflects on the importance and benefits of the project from the point of view of the author ? performer and her audience.

Návrh divadelní budovy v obci

This diploma work concentrates on the study of a theatre building for Poniklá village. The theoretical part attends especially to the theatre area, the submitter's profile, and to the directive references related to the theatre designing. The work solution itself consists in a design of a supporting structure and other applied structures in the facility, in the evaluation of their relation to the fire safety, acoustic parameters and thermic properties. The issue of individual halls (auditoriums), where visibility and acoustic is designed, is more specified. The design of the property heating and ventilation is a part of the work. Furthermore, the drawing documentation describing the property range needed for the study is attached to the diploma work.

SCENOGRAPHY AS A USAGE OF SPACE

This bachelor thesis discusses the matter of using space in theatre scenography. There is a description of non-traditional usage concept of scenographic space in the 20th century in the theoretical part of the paper and my experiences with the organisation of space usage, work with lights and sound, costumes making during the creation of the following pieces - Sarajevo and Endgame - in the practical part of the paper, including the part of working with actors in various space (rehearsal phase and the piece itself). The possibilities of how to make the theatre "non-theatrical" and how to close up with the audience are also discussed. Picture documentation is attached to the paper including basic scenography sketches and photographs from both pieces.

Author´s Work with Material in Theatre and Non-theatre Space

Within my master's degree project Bathrooms I cooperated on the creation of several performances and theatre productions, in bathrooms of private flats as well as in theatre space. The main content of my thesis is therefore a reflection of these personal experiences, which are mostly founded on work with authentic material as a significant source of inspiration.
The first part of the thesis concentrates on ten short performances in authenthic space (bathrooms), which were created in years 2009-2011. Here, I look into the solutions of the individual performances from the position of an author and a performer. At the conclusion of this part, I mostly place emphasis on the communication with the audience within the functions in authentic space, and I compare my own approach to the methods of other artists. The second part of the thesis is focused on the projects which I implemented in theatre space, together with other colleagues. These projects were founded on my experiences from the bathroom performances. In this part, I analyse the evolution of creative process, and seek connection with the experiments in authentic space.
